(FreePressBeacon.com) – In an infuriating measure, the lame-duck Biden administration just handed out a massive amnesty extension in the form of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) to 850,000 migrants until 2026.
See the tweet below!
This move, under the helm of border chief Alejandro Mayorkas, is a slap in the face to immigration enforcement and the American worker.
Critics fear this is another step in Biden’s pro-migration agenda that will strain taxpayer resources and exacerbate the border crisis.
Temporary Protected Status has been extended to 234,000 migrants from El Salvador and 600,000 from Venezuela.
Alejandro Mayorkas cites geological and weather events in El Salvador, including earthquakes, as well as a worsening humanitarian crisis under Venezuela’s Maduro regime as the basis for this decision.
The substantial expansion of TPS not only offers protection from deportation but also grants work authorization in the U.S. Critics argue that this move favors foreign nationals at the expense of American jobs, pushing U.S. workers out of the market and keeping wages depressed.
Mayorkas reported, “After reviewing the country conditions in Venezuela and consulting with interagency partners, it was determined that an 18-month TPS extension is warranted based on the severe humanitarian emergency the country continues to face due to political and economic crises under the inhumane Maduro regime.”
Concerns have also been raised that this decision indirectly supports foreign governments like Venezuela’s by allowing opponents to seek refuge in the United States, which could prolong their dictatorial regimes.
Moreover, as migrants are granted the ability to work in the U.S., they send money home, potentially bolstering corrupt foreign governments rather than encouraging reform.
“El Salvador’s extension of TPS is based on geological and weather events, including significant storms and heavy rainfall in 2023 and 2024, that continue to affect areas heavily impacted by the earthquakes in 2001,” Mayorkas declared, cited by Breitbart News.

Under Mayorkas, the number of migrants holding TPS status has surged to about one million, a figure that continues to raise eyebrows.
There’s an ongoing debate over whether this decision represents a short-sighted method to address the immediate humanitarian crisis or if it’s merely a strategy to curry favor with business and ethnic lobbies arguing economic and community benefits.
In the wider context, the TPS extensions for countries like Ukraine and Sudan highlight the administration’s direction in immigration policy.
But some argue this approach merely punts the responsibility of difficult immigration decisions down the road, allowing for flexibility as political scenarios evolve.
As anti-immigration activist Mark Krikorian observed, “This way, they’ll deal with it later in the administration, when they’ll have time to prepare the full explanation they’re going to need to lay out about why they’re not renewing TPS for El Salvador. So in a sense, this is a kind of gift to Trump.”
Ultimately, while the administration’s intentions may be rooted in compassion, this decision’s long-term effects on immigration enforcement and economic landscapes remain a contentious topic that will likely fuel heated debates across America.
