Specifically, Reed Hastings donated a whopping $7 million to a super PAC supporting the Democrat.
This political move has largely enraged American and Trump supporters, prompting viewers to ditch the platform.
The streaming service’s churn rate nearly tripled in the U.S. after Hastings’ endorsement, hitting a staggering 2.8% in July – the highest since February.
This spike in cancellations comes as Netflix is ending its basic ad-free plan, further angering loyal customers who felt betrayed by the company’s biased political leanings.
In response, Trump supporters rallied together, called for a boycott of Netflix and caused the hashtag #CancelNetflix to trend on social media platforms.
The backlash was swift and severe. July 26 marked Netflix’s worst day for cancellations in 2023, with frustrated subscribers posting about their decision to cut ties with the company.
Hastings’s resolute endorsement of Harris is just another example of how out of touch Hollywood elites are with everyday Americans.
However, Netflix’s embrace of woke politics and diversity initiatives, implemented after the 2020 Black Lives Matter movement, has finally come back to haunt them.
The streaming giant’s commitment to leftist ideologies goes beyond mere words. In 2020, Netflix pledged to move 2% of its cash into black-owned banks and Hastings himself donated $120 million to historically black colleges and universities.
These moves and the company’s diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) practices have alienated a significant portion of its conservative customer base.
While Netflix has nearly 278 million global paid subscribers and generates billions in revenue each quarter, this recent boycott serves as a clear reminder that even corporate giants are not immune to the consequences of pushing a woke agenda.
