(FreePressBeacon.com) – In terrible but well-deserved news for the Democrats, amidst a backdrop of rising antisemitism and U.S. policy dissatisfaction on Israel, Jewish allegiance to the Democrat Party has hit a 40-year low.
This declining support surfaces as concerns grow over the White House’s weak response to the Oct. 7 Hamas terrorist attack and the eroding inclusivity on U.S. campuses.
Jewish voters, once a Democratic stronghold, are reevaluating their political loyalties in a shocking shift.
Jewish support for Democrats is projected to be the lowest since the Reagan era.
Just 67% of Jewish voters might back Kamala Harris over Donald Trump in 2024, according to a new poll from the Manhattan Institute, cited by AOL.
This is a significant drop from 1992 when Bill Clinton enjoyed the favor of 80% of Jewish voters.
The October 7 attack by Hamas on Israel marks an acceleration in the diminishing Jewish support for Democrats.
Despite the Biden administration’s attempts to reconcile, the lack of strong condemnation of antisemitic acts has left many Jewish voters uneasy.
This sentiment is apparent, as 62% of Jewish voters express growing concerns about antisemitism within the party.
“Many are likely uncomfortable with the Democratic Party’s tolerance of voices that criticize Israel in extreme terms, such as labeling the country ‘genocidal.’ This is evidenced by the fact that Jews are almost universally supportive of Israel—a mere 5% of Jewish voters say they are not supporters of the Jewish state,” commented Jesse Arm, Chief of Staff at the Manhattan Institute.
Many Jewish voters are also dissatisfied with the Democratic Party’s leniency towards extreme anti-Israel rhetoric.
Jewish support for Israel remains strong at 86%, highlighting divergence on this key issue.
Additionally, a third of Jewish voters cited abortion as a primary campaign concern for 2024, while most Americans focus on the economy, Newsmax reports.
Denominational differences are emerging, with Reform and unaffiliated Jews showing some support for Harris, contrasted by Conservative and Orthodox Jews who lean towards Trump.
This shift might point to a broader realignment with religious observance becoming a decisive factor in voter preferences.
Despite the wavering Jewish support, Democrats find some common ground with Jewish voters on issues like abortion, though differences reign on immigration, crime, and fiscal policy.
Jewish voters advocate for stronger immigration vetting, criticize a soft criminal justice system, and generally support higher taxes on wealthier brackets.
The Democrat Party’s racial policies are also under scrutiny as many Jewish voters prefer a color-blind approach over race-conscious actions.
