(FreePressBeacon.com) – Following an investigation into his campaign’s financial records, Republican US Representative Andy Ogles of Tennessee has confirmed that the FBI seized his cell phone during a raid last week.
On social media platform X, Ogles shared that the seizure happened just a day after he securеd a primary victory for Tennessee’s 5th Congressional District.
As a member of the House Freedom Caucus, he acknowledged that the FBI’s inquiry is related to “well-known facts” regarding “mistakes” in his early campaign financial disclosures.
He committed to “fully cooperate” with both the FBI and the Federal Election Commission (FEC).
“It has been widely reported for months that my campaign made mistakes in our initial financial filings,” Ogles mentioned in his post.
“We have worked diligently with attorneys and reporting experts to correct the errors and ensure compliance going forward,” he added.
He further elaborated, “It is my understanding that they are investigating the same well-known facts surrounding these filings.”
“I will of course fully cooperate with them, just as I have with the Federal Election Commission. I am confident all involved will concludе that the reporting discrepancies were based on honest mistakes, and nothing more,” he concluded.
Neither the FBI nor the United States Attorney’s Office of the Middle District of Tennessee would comment on the ongoing investigation.
They stuck to their standard responsе of neither confirming nor denying ongoing investigations.
The financial issues in question include a $320,000 loan Ogles reportedly made to his campaign in 2022, which the Campaign Legal Center brought to light in a complaint filed with the Congressional Ethics Office in January.
The complaint also noted Ogles’ failure to disclose the assets used to secure the loan and a $700,000 line of credit opened the same year.
