(FreePressBeacon.com) – Following Joe Biden’s sudden withdrawal from the presidential race, Black Lives Matter slammed the Democrat Party for swiftly supporting Kamala Harris as the new presumptive nominee.
The organization accused the party of “anointing” Harris without proper input from primary voters.
Biden announced his exit from the race on Sunday and endorsed Harris, who then quickly received over 260 endorsements from elected Democrats and raised over $100 million.
However, BLM was displeased with these developments and demanded the Democratic National Committee organize a virtual snap primary before its August convention to ensure voters are involved.
“We do not live in a dictatorship. Delegates are not oligarchs,” BLM stated. “Any attempt to evade or override the will of voters in our primary system—no matter how historic the candidate—must be condemned.”
Although Harris secured enough delegates to be considered the presumptive Democratic nominee by Monday night, BLM called for greater public participation in the nomination process.
“This is about the Democratic Party following a process that protects the legitimacy of any future Democratic president following this unprecedented moment,” the organization declared.
It added, “Installing Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee and an unknown vice president without any public voting process would make the modern Democratic Party a party of hypocrites. It would undermine their credibility on issues related to democracy.”
BLM also raised concerns that bypassing a more transparent nomination process would lend support to critics who argue that Harris was chosen only for her race and gender.
Amid these debates, some Republican lawmakers have criticized the nomination process.
Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) referred to Harris as a “DEI hire.” This comment prompted GOP leaders to convene a closed-door meeting.
“This should not be about personalities. It should be about policy. And we have a record to compare,” House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) stated.
“This has nothing to do with race. It has to do with the competence of the person running for president, the relative strength of the two candidates and what ideas they have on how to solve America’s problems. And I think in that comparison, we’ll win in a landslide,” he concluded.
