(FreePressBeacon.com) – Americans nationwide need to be prepared as over 18,000 Costco workers have courageously voted for a strike, demanding a just contract.

The impending strike, backed by an overwhelming 85% approval from Teamsters union members, looms large.
The strike was authorized as Costco executives haven’t adequately addressed negotiation points critical to their workforce, despite the company’s record-breaking $7.4 billion in net profits.
If no fair contract is presented by January 31, Teamsters are prepared to take action.
Costco Teamsters, representing only 8% of the company’s 219,000 employees, have made it clear that their demands for industry-leading agreements reflect Costco’s significant financial success.
Sean M. O’Brien, the Teamsters General President, criticized Costco’s executives for being “greedy” and warned that they bear the blame if a strike occurs.
“Our members have spoken loud and clear—Costco must deliver a fair contract, or they’ll be held accountable. From day one, we’ve told Costco that our members won’t work a day past January 31 without a historic, industry-leading agreement. Costco’s greedy executives have less than two weeks to do the right thing. If they refuse, they’ll have no one to blame but themselves when our members go on strike,” O’Brien said, cited by MyNorthwest.com.
Practice pickets have already been held in multiple states, anticipating the possibility of a walkout.
A strike could impact 56 Costco warehouse stores across five states, putting pressure on Costco management.
Workers demand fair wages and benefits, no longer willing to accept less as Costco profits soared 135% since 2018.
“The vote is a direct result of the company’s continued failure to bargain constructively,” the union said in a post.
The Teamsters argue that the company’s counterproposal was “insulting” and not reflective of Costco’s economic situation.
Tom Erickson, director of the Teamsters Warehouse Division, asserts, “Costco claims to treat workers better than the competition, but right now, it’s failing to live up to that reputation. Management has less than two weeks to fix this — if they don’t, they’ll face the consequences.”
Union leaders continue to stand firm, demanding compensation aligned with Costco’s prolific gains, including addressing key issues such as seniority pay and sick time policies.
Yet, Costco remains silent about the ongoing negotiations, providing no comments or responses to inquiries.
The final rounds of negotiation began on January 20, and the union plans less than a week of negotiation before the contract expiration date.
18,000 Costco workers, represented by the Teamsters union, have voted to authorize a potential nationwide strike that will start February 1 if a new contract isn't agreed upon by January 31.
