(FreePressBeacon.com) – Joining the growing group of Democrats scrambling for an alternative presidential candidate ahead of the elections, a major Obama bigwig swiftly abandoned Joe Biden.
Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, a key figure in shaping the Obama-era Affordable Care Act and a former member of Biden’s transition team, stated that any potential new Democratic presidential ticket should exclusively feature politicians from swing states.
Emanuel, who was also part of Biden’s COVID-19 task force before his presidency, voiced on X that the sole reason for replacing 81-year-old Biden should be to assemble a duo capable of securing “270 electoral votes.”
While Emanuel did not specify names, he hinted at evident candidates to those familiar with the current political landscape.
He wrote, “As a scientist, I look at data. As an Emanuel, I know that elections are about winning. “[T]he election comes down to six swing states, of which four have blue governors that have proven they can win in a purple electorate. One has a popular astronaut who is a Senator.”
He further suggested, “Pick the two you like, and that’s the ticket.”
This hints at potential candidates like Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers, Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs and Senator Mark Kelly (D-AZ) as suitable replacements should Biden turn down the Democratic nomination.
With the key states in the 2024 election often identified as Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin—and considering that Georgia and Nevada currently have Republican governors—Emanuel’s strategy emphasizes electability in these areas.
Sen. Kelly, who has a background as a NASA astronaut with four space missions to his credit, represents the type of candidate Emanuel finds favorable.
Emanuel argued against choosing “candidates from deep blues [sic] states – like California or New Jersey. We need a ticket that can win in swing states.”
Following this logic, Kamala Harris, with her deep roots in California politics, would not be an ideal candidate for the ticket, according to Emanuel.
Recent polls by the New York Times and Wall Street Journal indicated Biden is lagging behind Trump by six points among likely and registered voters, intensifying discussions about the viability of the current Democratic ticket.
