(FreePressBeacon.com) – In a stunning development and a potential turning point for Derek Chauvin’s appeal, a court has approved the examination of George Floyd’s heart tissue, raising questions about whether all factors in Floyd’s tragic death were thoroughly considered.

Chauvin’s legal team aims to challenge the conviction by arguing the possibility of a previously unexplored heart condition contributing to Floyd’s death.

Chauvin’s legal defense has received a critical opportunity to test George Floyd’s heart tissue as they contest the former officer’s federal civil rights conviction.

U.S. District Judge Paul Magnuson ruled in favor of accessing Floyd’s heart tissue and fluid samples, marking a significant step for Chauvin’s appeal efforts.

The court deemed there was good cause to permit this discovery, suggesting it could yield a new perspective on Floyd’s cause of death.

Attorneys will examine histology slides, tissue samples, and autopsy photos to bolster their argument.

Chauvin’s defense claims previous counsel, Eric Nelson, inadequately pursued this avenue during his original trial, The Western Journal notes in a report.

“Given the significant nature of the criminal case that Mr. Chauvin was convicted of, and given that the discovery that Mr. Chauvin seeks could support Dr. Schaetzel’s opinion of how Mr. Floyd died, the Court finds that there is good cause to allow Mr. Chauvin to take the discovery that he seeks,” wrote judge Paul Magnuson.

Central to the appeal is the suggestion from Dr. William Schaetzel that Floyd may have suffered from takotsubo cardiomyopathy, a heart condition linked to severe stress.

This potential cause, along with the high levels of fentanyl found in Floyd’s system, could shift the narrative from asphyxiation to an overdose or stress-induced condition.

Despite the Supreme Court rejecting Chauvin’s prior appeal of his state murder conviction, Chauvin presses on with his federal appeal.

With assistant federal defender Robert Meyers at the helm, Chauvin seeks to overturn his conviction by claiming “ineffective assistance counsel” from his initial defense team, stating that key evidence was neglected.

Floyd’s death, captured on video, led to widespread protests and a global movement against police brutality and racism.

As the legal examination proceeds, it could reignite debates over Floyd’s tragic death and its implications.

While federal prosecutors defend the initial trial’s strategy as a tactical decision, Chauvin’s appeal highlights the defense’s pursuit of truth as they challenge the original conviction’s evidence.
