(FreePressBeacon.com) – After being the lone dissenting voice in his party regarding the new likely nominee, former President Barack Obama has finally endorsed Kamala Harris for President.

Obama announced his support alongside his wife, former First Lady Michelle Obama, via X, where he said he believed that Harris has the “vision, the character, and the strength” needed at this crucial time for the nation.

“Earlier this week, Michelle and I called our friend @KamalaHarris,” Obama posted. “We told her we think she’ll make a fantastic President of the United States, and that she has our full support.”

“At this critical moment for our country, we’re going to do everything we can to make sure she wins in November. We hope you’ll join us,” he added.

This backing follows a series of supports from key Democratic figures, including Joe Biden, who endorsed Harris immediately after announcing his sudden withdrawal from the 2024 race on July 21.

Other senior Democrats like Bill and Hillary Clinton, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries quickly followed suit.

However, Obama, known for his cautious approach regarding presidential endorsements, took longer to decide.

His support came after a period of reflection and strategic timing meant to boost Harris’s campaign momentum without overshadowing Biden’s recent withdrawal announcement.

After Biden’s recent Oval Office address, Obama posted, “Joe Biden has stayed true to these words again and again over a lifetime of service to the American people. Thank you, @POTUS.”

Obama’s endorsement comes at a critical time as the Harris campaign, now rebranded as Harris for President, reports having raised over $100 million shortly after Biden’s backing.

During the last two presidential election cycles, Obama typically waited to endorse until the outcome of the Democrat primaries was clear so as not to influence the primaries.

With the Democratic National Committee planning a virtual nomination process ahead of the convention, Harris’s campaign is actively vetting potential vice-presidential candidates.
