Fierce weather conditions threaten to create chaos, particularly in California, the Midwest, and the Great Lakes regions.
As Thanksgiving approaches, a staggering 80 million Americans are expected to travel, potentially setting new records.
But severe weather could disrupt these plans.
Nearly 71.7 million will hit the roads, 5.84 million will fly domestically, and 2.3 million are using other transportation modes.
Airports like San Francisco, Newark, and Boston Logan are already known for delays, and this year’s weather might worsen the situation.
The country faces multiple weather threats, with snow forecasted in the Midwest and heavy rain along the Gulf Coast.
Sacramento, California, is under a winter storm warning with snow expected in the Sierra Nevada.
A “bomb cyclone” previously pummeled the West Coast, and now a new storm system threatens to cause power outages, significant snowfalls, and hazardous road conditions from coast to coast.
The Midwest, from the Dakotas to the Great Lakes, will see snow showers and rain early in the week.
Meanwhile, the storm is expected to move eastward, bringing rain and potential disruptions to major cities including Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, and Washington D.C. on Tuesday.
The FOX Forecast Center warns that the storm could also cause delays along the busy Interstate 95 corridor.
“Thanksgiving is the busiest holiday for travel, and this year we’re expecting to set new records across the board, from driving to flying and cruising,” said Stacey Barber, Vice President of AAA Travel.
“Americans reconnect with family and friends over Thanksgiving, and travel is a big part of that,” she added, cited by The Mirror.
In the East, temperatures will initially be warmer than usual on Tuesday before dropping dramatically by midweek.
Snow is possible in the Upper Ohio Valley and Northeast by Thanksgiving Day.
This could impact the cherished Thanksgiving traditions, halting parades, turkey trots, and football games with rain and snow.
The FOX Forecast Center anticipates that, while significant storms will impact travel, the weather system won’t be as strong as previous years.
However, traveling Americans should remain cautious.
Snow showers are expected to persist in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and the Dakotas on Wednesday, creating hazardous travel conditions.
It’s clear these storms could make for one of the most challenging Thanksgivings in recent memory.
