In a shocking display of chaos and violence, the streets of Portland once again turned into a battleground, as rioters breached the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) building using explosives and rocks and injuring police officers.

Multiple police officers were injured in this senseless attack on law enforcement and federal property.
The night of June 14, 2025, saw Portland descend into another intense conflict outside the ICE facility on South Waterfront.
Initially, thousands gathered peacefully for the “No Kings” protest, but that quickly devolved into chaos.
Smaller groups joined forces against federal officers, leading police to declare the gathering a riot.
Federal officers, finding themselves outnumbered, responded with smoke, tear gas, flash grenades, and other projectiles.
Protesters retaliated by forming impromptu shield walls and hurling water bottles and fireworks, shattering glass doors to gain entry into the facility.
The severity of the situation required the establishment of a perimeter by federal forces, forcing them to resort to less-lethal rounds to restore order.
Despite this, the Portland Police’s Rapid Response Team and bicycle police stood largely on the sidelines, contributing little to quell the unrest.
Four officers sustained injuries, but federal agents eventually secured the embattled facility.
The riots in Portland were not isolated. They followed similar tensions in Los Angeles, where protests erupted against federal immigration raids.
As chaos continued, a medical event occurred requiring attention inside the ICE facility, heightening the night’s turmoil.
This is not just about one night of madness. An alarming post shared ICE officials’ personal information, triggering a warning from the Department of Homeland Security.
“We will NOT be deterred by rioters’ intimidation and threats. ICE immigration enforcement will only ramp up,” the department declared.
Though police made several arrests over the week, including charges for arson and assault, the situation remained volatile.
By 9 p.m., officials reported some control, and the area was no longer classified as a riot.
Yet, the lingering question remains: how long until Portland faces its next bout of unrest, and what measures are required to prevent future outbursts?
“We will NOT be deterred by rioters’ intimidation and threats. ICE immigration enforcement will only ramp up,” said the Department of Homeland Security.
