(FreePressBeacon.com) – In striking revelations relevant to the recent assassination attempt on Donald Trump, whistleblowers have revealed that the Secret Service was aware its resources for protecting the former president were “limited.”
Whistleblowers have informed members of the House of Representatives that the Secret Service was aware of its “limited” capabilities in safeguarding former President Donald Trump prior to a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where an attempt on his life occurred, The Daily Wire reports.
In correspondence with FBI Director Christopher Wray, House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) relayed that whistleblowers reported a lack of adequate staffing at the Secret Service, attributed to concurrent commitments including a NATO summit and a campaign event in Pittsburgh featuring First Lady Jill Biden.
“Whistleblowers have disclosed to the Committee that the USSS led two briefings regarding the July 13 campaign rally on July 8, 2024, with the Western Pennsylvania Fusion Center (WPFC) and other stakeholders, to discuss the upcoming, unrelated visits by President Trump and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden,” Jordan noted last Thursday.
In these briefings, it was reportedly conveyed by USSS Special Agent in Charge Tim Burke to law enforcement partners that their resources were stretched thin that week as personnel were also deployed to the NATO summit in Washington, D.C., with FBI staff also in attendance.
The efficacy of the Secret Service has been sharply criticized following an incident where a 20-year-old individual managed to discharge several shots at Trump, resulting in injuries to him and two other attendees, and the death of 50-year-old Corey Comperatore.
“Information provided to this Committee raises serious questions about the thoroughness of the security planning by local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies in support of President Trump’s campaign rally,” Jordan further expressed his concerns.
Jordan is probing the degree of preparedness and rapid response capability of the FBI in the aftermath of this event, especially considering the agency’s recent controversies.
He is seeking an array of documents related to the FBI’s investigation of the incident, questioning whether the staffing shortage during the rally was due to the simultaneous NATO summit and Biden campaign event.
He has requested these documents by 5:00 p.m. on July 23.
In response, Republican members of the House have initiated investigations into the attempted assassination and have called for Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle to provide public testimony regarding the matter.
