Fox News drew roughly 2.4 million in primetime and about 1.5 million total day, while MSNBC averaged about 865,000 in primetime and roughly 530,000 total day. CNN’s total day hovered near 370,000, underscoring a third-place position in overall viewers and in the ad-critical demo.

Show-level rankings reinforce the gap. Fox’s The Five topped cable news with about 3.53 million viewers, followed by strong performances from Jesse Watters Primetime, Gutfeld!, and Hannity.

MSNBC’s tentpole The Rachel Maddow Show averaged roughly 2.02 million on its weekly airing. CNN’s highest-rated daily program, Anderson Cooper 360, averaged around 573,000, reflecting a primetime slate that struggled to convert broad interest into appointment viewing.

Why July Hit CNN Harder Than Others

Year-over-year comparisons were always going to be tough after July 2024’s extraordinary cluster of events—the Trump assassination attempt, the Republican National Convention, and President Biden’s withdrawal—that produced unusual spikes.
