(FreePressBeacon.com) – In a true testimony to how staggering the latest crime spike has become in New York City, Curtis Sliwa, the head of the Guardian Angels, has declared that he’s “never seen it this bad,” as his group returns to patrol the NYC subway.

The Guardian Angels are reinforcing their commitment to safety amid a leftist-run city that continues to struggle with public security.
Despite mayoral criticism labeling their efforts as “meaningless stunts,” these volunteers are seen by many as vital agents of change.
The Guardian Angels, identifiable by their red berets, have officially resumed patrols on New York City’s subways.
This comes as a reaction to the recent tragic incident involving an unidentified woman, who was burned alive on an F train, leading to the arrest of suspect Sebastian Zapeta-Calil, an illegal alien.
These brave volunteers, led by founder Curtis Sliwa, follow a tradition of protecting the community since the group’s inception in 1979, The New York Post writes.
The Guardian Angels will patrol in teams of three, operating 24/7 in four-hour shifts with a focus on the F line.
Their mission is to conduct wellness checks, particularly with homeless or emotionally disturbed individuals, and to coordinate with police when necessary.
Curtis Sliwa, undeterred by criticism, declared, “We’re now back to where we were when I started the group in 1979 on the subways. It’s gone full circle. I’ve never seen it this bad. Never.”
Despite the noble intentions of the Guardian Angels, Mayor Eric Adams’ spokesperson, Kayla Mamalek, criticized their actions as theatrics, emphasizing the administration’s efforts in deploying over 1,000 police officers daily.
However, the fact remains that the subway system has seen ten murders this year, double last year’s count, casting doubt over the impact of these government measures.
Citizens, on the other hand, are rallying behind the Guardian Angels.
The group has already received 70 new volunteer applications, fostering optimism that this grassroots effort can make a tangible difference.
Natalie Lora, a native New Yorker, echoed the feelings of many: “We need them, It’s that time: We need them again. We’re happy to see them. If you’re a native New Yorker then you know.”
The Guardian Angels have a critical role in supporting public safety. With a determination to increase volunteer numbers and enhance training, the group appears committed to restoring order and ensuring the uninterrupted safety of subway commuters.
As Sliwa faces criticism from political leaders, it remains to be seen whether the Guardian Angels will manage to fill the gaps left by government inaction, proving once and for all the power of dedicated individuals in keeping our streets safe.
