Trump Prosecutor Accused

(FreePressBeacon.com) – Stepping up the fight against the Democratic-led witch hunts wanting to influence the election’s outcome, House Republican Conference chair Elise Stefanik is demanding an ethics review of Special Counsel Jack Smith.

Stefanik sent a request to the Justice Department’s Office of Professional Responsibility to examine how Smith is handling the case he mounted against former President Donald Trump over alleged election interference.

Considered a potential vice-presidential candidate for Trump, Stefanik stated, “It’s obvious to any reasonable observer that Jack Smith is trying to interfere with the 2024 election and stop the American people from electing Donald Trump.”

She accused Smith of several misconducts, including attempting to speed up the trial process and filing legal documents during a court-imposed pause in the 2020 election subversion case.

In December, Smith tried to have the Supreme Court bypass lower courts and rush a decision on Trump’s claim of presidential immunity.

Smith argued that resolving the case swiftly was in the public interest, but the Supreme Court declined his request. This delayed the trial’s start date, originally set for March 4.

Stefanik asserted that Smith’s actions wanted to politically damage Trump before the upcoming election instead of seeking justice.

She highlighted a DOJ guideline that prosecutors should not time their actions to influence elections or to benefit or harm any political party or candidate.

Stefanik also pointed out that Smith continued to push forward with legal filings even after U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan paused the case due to ongoing appeals regarding Trump’s immunity.

The congresswoman further noted that earlier this year, Judge Chutkan dismissed a motion to hold Smith in contempt for these filings, which Stefanik argued violated court orders.

Smith is responsible for managing significant cases against Trump, including indictments related to the 2020 election and classified documents found at Mar-a-Lago.

Trump has faced multiple charges across several indictments but maintains his innocence.

Both Stefanik and Smith were recently recognized in Time magazine’s list of the 100 most influential people of 2024.

Stefanik fiercely criticized Smith’s handling of Trump’s cases and supported Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign early announcement.
