This crucial piece of legislation aims to ease the financial burden on our brave police officers facing shifts that often stretch beyond their scheduled hours.

President Trump’s proposed legislation has been met with resounding support from the largest police union in the U.S., the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP).

The union praised the act as a significant breakthrough for law enforcement officers, targeting an area that has been a cause of concern over the years—taxes on overtime pay.

FOP National President Patrick Yoes hailed the bill, expressing gratitude for measures that promise to uplift public safety officers economically.

The “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” is well-received within law enforcement circles.

The act promises to alleviate financial constraints imposed by the current SALT deduction cap.

This aspect of the legislative proposal supports those living in high-cost areas, like New York City and Los Angeles, where the cap has presented an undue burden on officers compelled to live near their work jurisdictions.

The1920s For the bill to pass the House of Representatives, it squeaked by with a razor-thin 215-214 margin.

However, it faces an uphill battle in the Senate.

Concerns have been raised by some, notably Rep. Rich McCormick, over the potential for increasing the U.S. deficit by $385 billion due to the changes in the SALT provision.

“The ‘One Big Beautiful Bill Act’ is more than legislation—it is a promise kept to the public safety officers across the country and a bold step toward an economy that respects, rewards, and uplifts the people who keep it safe,” FOP President Patrick Yoes declared.

Benefits are expected for officers with the introduction of a tax deduction for overtime earnings for those making less than $160,000.

Additionally, the increase of SALT deductions up to $40,000 is intended for individuals earning below $500,000.

This provision attempts to bridge the fiscal gap faced by police officers who serve communities with stretched budgets and increasing responsibilities.

The endorsement by the FOP underscores Trump’s commitment to law enforcement, resonating with many officers who have felt underappreciated and overburdened in recent years.

President Trump and House Speaker J. Michael Johnson have been commended for their leadership in moving this bill through Congress.

“The current cap on SALT deductions uniquely and unfairly penalizes law enforcement officers, who often are required to live within a certain distance of the jurisdictions they serve,” Yoes said further.

This legislation represents a historic moment for law enforcement officers.

It delivers on Trump’s long-promised relief from federal income taxes on overtime work.

As the bill nears Senate deliberation, the focus remains on whether the Senate will prioritize the needs of American heroes over fiscal fears.
