(FreePressBeacon.com) – In a catastrophic security failure, a terrorist drove past unfinished defenses in New Orleans, resulting in a deadly New Year’s massacre.

The city’s shortcomings in protecting its citizens became painfully apparent as plans for robust barricades fell short.
An event meant for celebration on Bourbon Street turned tragic when Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a U.S. Army veteran, rammed a pickup truck displaying an Islamic State flag into crowds, brutally murdering 15 people.
This deadly rampage has drawn nationwide attention, as the assailant skillfully maneuvered past police barriers intended to thwart such attacks.
The FBI has classified the attack as terrorism, suspecting that Jabbar did not orchestrate this act unaided.
His vehicle also contained guns and an improvised explosive device, raising fears of a broader conspiracy.
Authorities are investigating potential ties to additional incidents in Honolulu and Las Vegas.
Videos posted by Jabbar online revealing his inspiration from extremist ideologies reinforce these suspicions.
As chaotic scenes unfolded, more explosive devices were found scattered in the iconic French Quarter.
Injuries soared, and a significant college football playoff game faced postponement, amplifying the sense of devastation.
“We did have a car there, we had barriers there, we had officers there, and they still got around,” said New Orleans police Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick
Despite heightened security efforts, including an influx of law enforcement for New Year’s Eve, the breach underscored profound flaws in the protective measures.
The removal of old bollards, left with temporary asphalt patches, may have created exploitable vulnerabilities.

As the city focused on a $40 million safety upgrading plan, including impact-resistant bollards, such lapses should not have occurred.
President Joe Biden condemned the attack, labeling it “despicable” and reaching out to the grieving families of the victims.
The heartbreaking loss underscores the broader threat of international terrorism, as highlighted by recent FBI warnings partly attributed to ongoing geopolitical conflicts.
“For those people who don’t believe in objective evil, all you have to do is look at what happened in our city early this morning. If this doesn’t trigger the gag reflex of every American, every fair-minded American, I’ll be very surprised,” said U.S. Sen. John Kennedy.
