Voter ID Now Enshrined In Constitution

Gavel on U.S. Constitution with American flag.

In a battleground state, voters delivered a decisive victory for election integrity by enshrining the state’s voter ID law in the constitution with 63% approval.

The amendment, championed by Republicans, protects one of the nation’s strictest voter identification requirements from potential judicial activism.

Democrats fought hard against this popular measure, presumably to preserve opportunities for election irregularities in a key battleground state.

The constitutional reformation, which received overwhelming support from Wisconsinites, elevates an existing 2011 law requiring photo identification at polling places to constitutional status.

This critical change means future liberal judges or lawmakers will find it significantly harder to weaken or eliminate these important protections.

Now, Wisconsin joins only eight other states with strict photo ID requirements for voting.

President Trump celebrated the amendment’s passage, highlighting its strategic importance in protecting Republican electoral prospects in this crucial swing state. He wrote:

“VOTER I.D. JUST APPROVED IN WISCONSIN ELECTION. Democrats fought hard against this, presumably so they can CHEAT. This is a BIG WIN FOR REPUBLICANS, MAYBE THE BIGGEST WIN OF THE NIGHT. IT SHOULD ALLOW US TO WIN WISCONSIN, LIKE I JUST DID IN THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION, FOR MANY YEARS TO COME!”

The amendment’s approval follows a lengthy constitutional process that required passage in two legislative sessions and a statewide referendum.

GOP lawmakers pushed for this protection specifically to shield the law from Wisconsin’s increasingly liberal-controlled state Supreme Court, which many conservatives feared might strike down the original legislation.

State Senator Van Wanggaard, who championed the measure, explained, “This will help maintain integrity in the electoral process, no matter who controls the Legislature.”

Despite predictable opposition from left-wing activists who falsely claim such requirements disenfranchise minority voters, polling shows overwhelming public support for voter ID.

A Marquette University poll found 77% of Wisconsin voters favor requiring photo identification at the polls – proving once again that common-sense election security measures remain extremely popular with everyday Americans.

Moreover, the referendum received strong backing from prominent conservatives nationwide, and even Tesla and X CEO Elon Musk responded enthusiastically, “Yeah!”

Republican Party officials had even sent mailers featuring Trump urging voters to support the measure, with the former president “counting on you to keep our elections secure.”

In addition, Wisconsin residents will experience no immediate changes as they have been required to present valid photo identification since 2016.

Acceptable forms include driver’s licenses, military IDs, U.S. passports, and certain tribal IDs. The constitutional amendment ensures these requirements remain in place regardless of which party controls state government.

The victory in Wisconsin adds momentum to similar efforts in other states to protect election integrity through constitutional amendments.

With Trump narrowly losing Wisconsin to Biden in 2020 before reclaiming the state in a subsequent election, securing the voting process in battleground states remains a top priority for Republicans who understand that fair elections require proper identification.
