(FreePressBeacon.com) – In a fiery message at this year’s Conservative Political Action Conference, Tom Homan, the formidable border czar of the Trump administration, has targeted Boston’s sanctuary city policies.

Homan warned Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox about limited cooperation with federal immigration authorities.

“I’m coming to Boston and bringing HELL with me,” he declared, sparking an intense debate over sanctuary city policies.

At the core of Homan’s critique is Boston’s refusal to honor ICE detainers, particularly concerning dangerous criminal offenders.

Homan’s stern words are part of his broader call for stronger immigration enforcement.

He criticized the sanctuary policies, claiming they shield offenders from accountability and compromise public safety.

Homan’s controversy-fueled actions are not new. He has a history of challenging those opposing stricter immigration laws.

His threats of legal action against officials like Denver Mayor Mike Johnston exemplify this ongoing struggle between local governments and federal authorities, reports WCVB.

Commissioner Cox replied that the Boston Police Department abides by local and state laws, focusing on crime rather than immigration status.

“We don’t care about your immigration status. What we do care about is: Are you a victim of crime in our city, or are you a victimizer? We will hold you accountable for that, and that doesn’t matter what your immigration status is,” Cox stated.

“The Boston Police Department has pretty defined rules, and we abide by the law here in the state, and we don’t enforce civil detainers regarding federal immigration law,” he added, cited by Newsweek.

Despite the tense exchanges, Massachusetts courts support the sanctuary stance based on a 2017 ruling.

They determined that state and local law enforcement are not obliged to comply with ICE detainers, creating a legal buffer for cities like Boston that choose to limit cooperation.

Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey and Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell have reinforced adherence to the law while safeguarding residents from illegal immigration-related detentions.

Governor Healey maintained Massachusetts is not a sanctuary state, citing housing shortages as a deterrent to migration.

“We are not a sanctuary state. If you come here, there is no housing here, and I think that’s been effective in changing the trajectory of [migration to Massachusetts],” she said, cited by CBS News.

Moreover, Boston Mayor Michelle Wu affirmed her support for Commissioner Cox and reiterated the city’s dedication to its sanctuary policies.
