(FreePressBeacon.com) – In a frustrating demonstration of disrespect, Canadian wrestling fans shocked many by booing the U.S. national anthem at the WWE Elimination Chamber event held in Toronto on March 1, 2025.

During the WWE Elimination Chamber at Toronto’s Rogers Centre, attendees booed as the U.S. national anthem was performed by Elizabeth Irving, who’s well-known for her vocal performances at Canadian sports events.
The booing intensified during the phrase “and the rockets’ red glare,” a standout moment meant to symbolize American resilience and unity, Fox News reports.
Sports analyst Pat McAfee, ignited by the incident, remarked, “Kinda sucks that [the event’s] in the terrible country of Canada that booed our national anthem to start this entire thing.”
Prominent figures like John Cena and Logan Paul were present at the event, adding to the significance of the occurrence.
The event, available on Peacock, marked the significant return of pro wrestler Jade Cargill to WWE TV, yet this show of poor sportsmanship overshadowed these highlights.
An ongoing series of events have exacerbated U.S.-Canada tensions, starting with similar incidents in Montreal and retaliatory booing at sports games in New York.

In the past, President Trump’s comments, such as suggesting Canada be the 51st state, have added unnecessary strain.
Hostility reached a tipping point with Trump’s tariff impositions on Canadian imports, followed by his remark citing a $200 billion loss connected to Canada.
Regrettably, such active harassment showcases an increasingly disturbing pattern of behavior from both countries’ fans.
This incident is just one of many as both Canadian and American fans continue to mutually boo one another’s national anthems during significant international events.
The disdain undermines the historically sound relationship between the two North American allies.
In an era needing unity and respect, this marks a dangerous spiral. Could traditional U.S.-Canada friendships withstand such hostility? At the core, patriotism should unite rather than divide.
