(FreePressBeacon.com) – Beneath Senator Bernie Sanders’ usual progressive rhetoric lies a surprising twist: partial endorsement of Donald Trump’s policies on illegal immigration and the fentanyl crisis.

Sanders’ acknowledgment of Trump’s efforts highlights the severity of these issues that demand solutions beyond party lines.

On March 23, 2025, Senator Bernie Sanders appeared on ABC News’s “This Week.”

During the interview, Sanders openly addressed illegal immigration and border security.

He acknowledged that “nobody thinks that illegal immigration is appropriate,” emphasizing a bipartisan need for comprehensive immigration reform.

Despite Sanders’ history of opposition to Trump’s policies, his comments about tackling fentanyl and bolstering border security prove otherwise.

Sanders told ABC’s Jonathan Karl, “I mean, I think cracking down on fentanyl, making sure our borders are stronger.”

This shift marks a notable departure from Sanders’ 2020 presidential campaign, where he called for dismantling Immigration and Customs Enforcement and pausing deportations.

However, he stopped short of endorsing Trump’s harsher tactics, citing concerns that mass deportations would “destroy the entire country.”

Recognizing the complexity of the problem, Sanders called for immigration reform and guest worker programs.

He highlighted America’s reliance on undocumented workers in agriculture and meatpacking, areas where his proposed reforms would ensure stability.

Sanders also criticized the Biden administration’s handling of illegal immigration, signaling further consensus with Trump.

Ironically, Sanders remains critical of both Trump and Elon Musk, which leads to questions about how far his newfound alliance may stretch.

Sanders continues his “Fighting Oligarchy Tour” with Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, rallying over 30,000 in Denver.

While Ocasio-Cortez promotes solidarity, Sanders promotes reform. Whether they can unite on immigration and public health remains to be seen.

“He wants to deport 20 million people who are in this country who are undocumented. Well, you do that, you destroy the entire country,” the Socialist senator declared.
