In a new observation by Donald Trump made while he was attending the G7 summit, the president blasted Barack Obama for expelling Russia from the G8 over a decade ago, linking the decision to Moscow’s later war on Ukraine.

Trump insists it’s too late to reverse this error by reintroducing Russia to the group, emphasizing the geopolitical shifts that have since occurred.
This standpoint at the Canada-hosted event has stirred discussions among world leaders.
During the summit, Trump reiterated his long-standing criticism of the decision to exclude Russia.
He blamed former President Barack Obama and wrongly accused Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who was not yet in office when the decision was made in 2014, of pushing for Russia’s removal.
The exclusion followed Russia’s annexation of Crimea, a move that the G7 leaders collectively agreed warranted expulsion.
Trump continues to argue that if Russia had remained a part of the G8, today’s geopolitical tensions might have been avoided.
He claims that having Putin in talks with Western leaders could have mitigated the hostility that led to the ongoing conflicts.
While attending the summit in Alberta, Canada, he noted that decisions like these complicate global diplomacy.
“They threw Russia out, which I claimed was a very big mistake, even though I wasn’t in politics. Putin is no longer at the table, so it makes life more complicated, but you wouldn’t have the war,” Trump claimed, cited by The Washington Times.
While Trump criticizes past decisions, he acknowledged that reintroducing Russia to the G7 is no longer feasible.
“Too much water has gone over the dam,” he observed, lamenting that the conditions for a simple reintegration no longer exist.
However, he continues to maintain strong support for renewed diplomatic dialogues to prevent further escalation between nations, especially in light of pressing global issues.
The summit’s agenda remains focused on other significant world issues, such as the conflict between Israel and Iran.
Trump has urged for negotiations on a nuclear deal, stressing the importance of proactive engagement before situations worsen.
His stance underscores his belief in dialogue over isolation, a philosophy he seems to apply universally to international relations.
“The G7 used to be the G8. Barack Obama and a person named Trudeau didn’t want to have Russia in,” Trump said.
Mark Carney, Canada’s current Prime Minister, was compelled to intervene as discussions became tense following Trump’s comments.
The Canadian leader emphasized the necessity of focusing on critical issues impacting global stability.
Meanwhile, Trump’s assertions highlight the ongoing divide between traditional Western alliances and his vision of a cooperative international community.
Trump just blamed Trudeau and Obama for kicking Russia out of the G8, called it a mistake.
