In another act by President Donald Trump to assert American greatness over globalist agenda, the U.S. has cut off its financial contributions to the World Trade Organization (WTO), leaving it stunned.

Critics of bloated international organizations, take note: the U.S. aims to put “America First” by resisting institutions undermining our sovereignty.

The Trump administration suspended financial contributions to the WTO on March 27, 2025.

This decision removes about 11% of the WTO’s annual operating budget, which amounts to around $232 million for 2024.

Trump’s move is a continuation of stepping away from international organizations perceived as unfavorable to the U.S.

The pause in funding is rooted in efforts to reclaim American sovereignty and stop what many see as a misuse of taxpayer dollars.

President Trump argues that international bodies like the WTO too often compromise U.S. interests in favor of countries like China, which enjoys special trade privileges.

This isn’t the first time Trump has distanced the U.S. from global organizations.

Cutting ties with the WTO follows his past actions of reducing funds to the United Nations and exiting other entities seen as handing unfair advantages to America’s competitors, Reuters reports.

Criticism of the WTO comes from China’s classification as a “developing country,” which grants it economic benefits despite being the world’s second-largest economy.

Trump has previously criticized this as a loophole that benefits China at the expense of well-established democracies.

Trump stated, “Why is it that China, for decades, and with a population much bigger than ours, is paying a tiny fraction of [dollars] to The World Health Organization, The United Nations, and, worst of all, The World Trade Organization, where they are considered a so-called ‘developing country’ and are therefore given massive advantages over The United States, and everyone else?”

Trump’s strategy aligns with the “America First” priorities, focusing on recalibrating U.S. engagement with institutions that may not serve national interests.

Halting funding for the WTO might incite diplomatic tensions, but it underscores a broader trend of withdrawing from global commitments deemed unfair.

The White House has not commented on this suspension despite inquiries.

While WTO rules could permit punitive measures against non-paying members, the organization’s weakened legal structure may limit enforcement, highlighting the challenges faced by these international entities.

The U.S. remains a member of the WTO, but the funding halt represents a pivotal step in Trump’s mission to reassess U.S. roles in international governance.

Supported by patriots and skeptics, this action seeks to ensure American interests are safeguarded and given top priority.
