(FreePressBeacon.com) – In a decisive move to tackle his predecessor’s last-minute appointments, President Trump has terminated the employment of twenty immigration judges appointed under the Biden administration.

This action aligns with Trump’s commitment to reshape the immigration system and crack down on cases of illegal immigration.
How this decision impacts the already backlogged system and America’s immigration policy remains to be seen.
In a sweeping move, the Trump administration dismissed 20 immigration judges and assistant chief judges appointed during the closing days of the Biden administration. These firings occurred without explanation, leaving the immigration courts, already burdened with 3.7 million pending cases, in further uncertainty.
The union representing the judges expressed alarm over the seemingly indiscriminate firings.
“The Trump administration fired 20 immigration judges without explanation, a union official said Saturday amid sweeping moves to shrink the size of the federal government,” Fox News reports.
The immigration court system, part of the Department of Justice (DOJ), is undergoing significant changes as Sirce Owen leads efforts to reverse many of the Biden administration’s policies.
Among the dismissed judges was Kerry E. Doyle, who had extensive experience in immigration law.
“Unfortunately, I was unable to avoid the political pink slip. This firing occurred despite the fact that among my peers in my court, I had the longest and most extensive experience in immigration law,” Doyle reacted.
Lawmakers from both sides acknowledge the backlog problem and support increasing the number of judges and support staff.
Despite efforts to streamline case decisions, the reality remains that the current system struggles under the weight of the backlog.
The Trump administration previously conducted mass firings across the government, including within the immigration courts.
This approach aligns with Trump’s priorities of reducing the federal government’s size and enforcing stricter immigration controls.
While bipartisan support exists for addressing the growing backlog, concerns about due process and the implications of mass firings in the federal workforce raise questions about the administration’s ultimate strategy for reforming U.S. immigration.
