In a powerful declaration, President Trump made it clear he was prepared to arrest NYC mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani while blasting him as a “total nut job” and “pure, true communist” after the latter’s primary victory over Andrew Cuomo.

Trump did not mince words about the Democrat socialist who could become New York City’s first Muslim mayor.
The 45th president expressed serious concern about Mamdani’s extremist policy agenda during recent remarks to the press.
“Frankly, I’ve heard he’s a total nut job, I think the people in New York are crazy because they go this route. I think they’re crazy. We will have a communist in the for the first time, really a pure, true communist. He wants to operate the grocery stores. The department stores. What about the people that are there? I think it’s crazy,” Trump stated.
Mamdani, who surprisingly defeated former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo by capturing 56% of the vote in the Democrat primary, has positioned himself as an extreme leftist.
His platform includes “Trump-proofing” New York City by removing ICE, establishing city-run grocery stores, and significantly increasing taxes on the wealthy.
Trump warned that if elected mayor, Mamdani would still need federal funding – giving the president leverage.
“I think he’s terrible. He’s a communist. The last thing we need is a communist. I said there will never be socialism in the United States, I think he’s bad news and I think I’m going to have a lot of fun with him, watching him, because he has to come right to this building to get his money. Don’t worry, he’s not going to run away with anything,” the president stated.
When confronted with Mamdani’s pledge to block ICE from making arrests and oppose Trump’s deportation plans, the president had a direct response: “Well, then we’ll have to arrest him.”
Trump further emphasized that “federal law trumps him every day, every hour of every minute,” making it clear that local officials cannot override federal immigration enforcement.
Mamdani’s radical background includes co-founding a Students for Justice in Palestine chapter and participating in a hunger strike for a Gaza ceasefire.
He has refused to denounce the phrase “Globalize the intifada” and has been involved in anti-police rhetoric that has alarmed even fellow Democrats.
“Look, we don’t need a communist in this country, but if we have one, I’m going to be watching over him very carefully on behalf of the nation,” President Donald Trump warned.
A damning video from a 2021 conference showed Mamdani supporting the idea of “seizing the means of production” – classic communist terminology that should alarm any American who values the free market.
He has also stated that “billionaires shouldn’t exist” while planning to increase property taxes in wealthier neighborhoods.
While Mamdani has secured endorsements from socialist leaders like Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, he notably lacks support from top New York Democrats such as Governor Kathy Hochul.
Even some Democrats like Representatives Tom Suozzi and Laura Gillen have criticized his extreme left-wing proposals.
The New York City mayoral election is scheduled for November 4, giving voters a clear choice between Mamdani’s socialist vision and defending traditional American values.
Trump has made it clear he won’t allow a radical mayor to undermine federal law or transform one of America’s greatest cities into a communist experiment.
